So, instead of doing greek mythology, I searched for Spanish mythology and found this legend from Puerto Rico, and surprisingly it fit really well with the characters of Zuko and Katara. So here is short version of the Legend of Guanina:

A Taino Indian princess on the island of Puerto Rico named Guanina fell in love with a Spanish officer and conquistador, Don Cristobal de Sotomayor. Guaybana, the chief of the Tainos and her brother (cough*Sokka*cough), hated the Spaniards and Sotomayor and swore revenge. Though warned by his aide and pleaded with by Guanina, Sotomayor chose to continue his journey to the capital and was attacked and killed by Guaybana and his men. Guanina found her dead lover and tried to bring him back to life through her kisses. Guanina was deemed a traitor and was going to be sacrificed to the gods, but when her people finally found her, she was already dead with her head resting on Sotomayor’s chest. The lovers were buried together underneath the ceiba tree (pictured above) and white lilies and red hibiscus magically appeared on their tomb, representing their true and passionate love. It is said that sometimes when a soft breeze blows and a ceiba tree casts its shadow over the land, the two lovers emerge to gaze at the evening star and kiss under the moonlight.
End.

So yeah, I thought this was perfect for Zuko and Katara. And, if anyone couldn’t tell, my inspiration for this scene was from Pocahontas where she first meets John Smith.

Also, funny thing...I actually lived in Ceiba, Puerto Rico when I was younger so I'm surprised I never heard this legend...

Yeah, I can see the Pocahantas inspiration - I thought it was Pocahantas at first. It looks amazing!
